Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez (aka The Troops of St. Tropez) is the first film of The Gendarme Series, released in 1964. It was directed by Jean Girault and presents the first incarnation of Louis de Funès as the sergeant of gendarmerie Ludovic Cruchot. The screenplay was written by Girault together with Jacques Vilfrid after the story by Richard Balducci.
In this movie, Cruchot, together with his daughter Nicole, arrives in the chic Saint-Tropez after being promoted from his initial countryside appointment as gendarme.
